When should you see a chiropractor?

When you struggle with pain that keeps coming back or pain that lingers longer than it should, it is time to consider seeing a chiropractor for your pain.

Typically if your issue falls under these three categories than it is time to schedule an appointment with Dr. Howard to fix your issue.

1. Taking over the counter pain reliever only helps bring your pain down for about a few hours or days.
2. Getting a massage does not alleviate your pain.
3. You have cycles or periods when your pain stops and it comes back weeks later stronger or lasts longer than the previous time.

Generally if the source of your pain was only muscle related ( pulling a muscle or strained muscle), taking an over the counter pain reliever or getting a massage will completely fix the issue. When it does not there is a more complex spinal issue that is the cause.

Chiropractors alleviate your pain at the source which is your spine. They take a detailed assessment of your spine to see which bones are misplaced that are pulling on the muscle and putting pressure on the nerves that are causing you pain.

When you have tried everything else to get rid of your pain at home and it is still present. Make an appointment with Dr. Howard to see how she can finally get you out of pain and resolve your issue.

Four foods that reduce back pain

Most of us are aware of the daily activities we do to cause back pain. From long DC commutes to wild sleeping patterns, daily activities in our work and living environments can cause added stress to our bodies that in the long run causes our bodies to be in chronic pain.

Another factor to consider is what we eat. Eating foods that increase your body’s inflammation is a major factor in causing chronic illness. Inflammation slows down the body’s healing process dramatically and aids in prolonged pain and discomfort.

The Huffington Post editor Yagana Shah did a great article on this subject click the link below to learn about the four foods you should be avoiding to fight inflammation and what you can eat instead.
